Laser Engraving FAQs

What is Laser Engraving?

Laser engraving is a process that vaporizes materials to create permanent, deep marks. The laser beam acts as a chisel, removing layers from the material's surface to incise marks. By hitting localized areas with high levels of energy, the laser generates the intense heat required for vaporization.

Can you laser engrave firearms?

Laser engraving is the preferred method for adding serial numbers, NFA trust and owner information, logos, and custom graphics to firearms. Fiber laser systems are capable of producing deep engraving, which is necessary for serial numbers, NFA trust, and owner information.

What type of material can be engraved with the fiber laser system?

The fiber laser system can engrave various materials including metals such as stainless steel, cast/forged steel, die-cast or anodized aluminum, titanium, iron, and non-ferrous metals.

However, it's important to note that copper, brass, and gold are not recommended for engraving due to the absorption range of the material.

When it comes to Glock Polymer 2.0 Plastic, the high-quality hard polymer of Glock frames provides exceptional clarity for custom stippling patterns and designs.

However, it's worth noting that the Polymer 80 (P80) pistol frame is not made with Glock Polymer 2.0 plastic and is not suitable for laser engraving.

Why are Glock frames different from those of other manufacturers?

Glock's frames are made from a high-strength nylon-based polymer, called Polymer 2.0, invented by Gaston Glock. This special plastic provides increased durability and is extremely resilient. Glock's high-quality polymer is the only one that consistently engraves sharp and crisp.

Note: The Polymer 80 (P80) pistol frames are not manufactured with Glock Polymer 2.0 and are not recommended for laser engraving.

Can you engrave on wood?

Combat Cats Creations has a Fiber Laser Engraver which is specifically designed for metal materials.

The C02 (carbon dioxide) laser engraving system is best for non-metals such as wood, cloth, leather, ceramics, stone, glass, etc.

Can you do NFA and Trust markings?

Yes! Our laser engraver system has the power for compliance with the strict ATF National Firearms Act (NFA) requirements for tamper resistant markings.
